Welcome to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School!
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) School, Waterloo we come together as followers of Christ, ensuring high quality teaching and learning so that all children can reach their full potential.
Mount Carmel is one of Sydney's oldest Catholic schools. It opened in November 1858, and in 2008 celebrated its 150th birthday. A number of Religious Orders have been involved in the school. The Sisters of Mercy (North Sydney) were involved in the school from 1883 until 1991. The Patrician Brothers staffed sections of the school from 1886 to 1963.
OLMC is a single-stream school of 130 students catering for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6 in the Redfern/Waterloo area. More than 60% of the students are Indigenous, with another 30% coming from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Reading Recovery, English as a Second Language and Special Education Programs provide for students with identified specific learning needs and a differentiated curriculum caters for all ranges of ability within the classroom setting.
Since 2005 our school has been involved in a ‘Leadership for Reconciliation’ Program where a group of Mount Carmel students join with students from Sacred Heart, Mosman to visit and experience significant Indigenous Songlines in Central Australia.
We are very proud of our school and the commitment we have to working in harmony with each other and the wider community.
